Synthesis Method

Ethane, 1-bromo-2-chloro- is obtained by the reaction of chloroethanol and phosphorus tribromide.

  1. First add chloroethanol to the reaction bottle and cool with water.
  2. Gradually add phosphorus tribromide dropwise while stirring.
  3. Control the temperature to 20-30℃ and stir at room temperature for half an hour.
  4. Heat to reflux for 1h, cool, wash with 5% sodium hydroxide, and separate the water layer.
  5. Then wash until neutral, wash with water,
  6. Dehydrate with anhydrous sodium carbonate, fractionate the obtained crude product, and collect the 106-108℃ fraction as the finished product.
