Synthesis Method
Under ice bath and stirring, add 125.8g of p-toluenesulfonyl chloride in dichloromethane (300mL) to 21.0g of 1,2-diphenylethylenediamine in triethylamine (100mL) dropwise for 2h, during which white solid precipitates.
The reaction mixture is stirred at room temperature for 3h, and the reaction is complete as detected by TLC.
The mixture is poured into ice water, and the separated organic layer is washed with water 3 times and dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate.
After removing the solvent by rotary evaporator, (1R,2R)-(-)-N-(p-methylbenzenesulfonyl)-1,2-diphenylethylenediamine is obtained.
